Upper East Side Sensory Gym

Kinetic Kids Occupational Therapy, PLLC offers high quality, individualized, private pediatric occupational therapy services for children of all ages. Our sensory gym offers a unique setting and is not overcrowded like other gyms. Children and families work 1:1 together with their therapist. We strongly encourage parent participation in all sessions and provide thorough programs for home and school carryover. We work with children and families to overcome challenges with sensory processing, gross motor and fine motor skills.
The first thing we aim to do is give you answers. Most of our clients are referred for behavior problems at home and/or school, difficulties learning, developmental motor delays (including handwriting), or problems with attention/focus. We do a thorough assessment to find out what is causing these problems. Behavior, emotional growth, and academic function all rests on sensorimotor development. We help determine where the cracks are that are causing your child’s difficulties.
We focus on a child’s strengths while working on the skills they need to be more successful in their home or classroom environment. The key to our success is that we properly identify the contributing underlying factors that are holding your child back. By identifying them, we are able to match the intervention needs specifically to your child! Sessions are fun and kids love coming to play at the gym. Parents are allowed in all sessions and work directly with the child and therapist as much as possible.
Kinetic Kids Occupational Therapy, PLLC, helps enable children with sensory processing challenges to accurately detect, regulate, and interpret sensations, form appropriate motor and behavioral responses so that they can perform everyday activities. Treatment focuses on child driven movement tasks and is fun! Children are challenged through subtly structured sessions and feel a sense of success with completing each activity. The sensory gym is filled with suspended equipment, balls, climbing structures, crash pads, and other various sensory equipment. Erin, the owner, took pride in designing both gyms herself after she found other gyms she had been at before too restrictive in terms of their potential for child driven movement tasks. Sessions also focus heavily on play, relationships, and regulation and give children a sense of success. The sensory gyms are individualized so that families can work closely with the therapists.
SENSORY INTENSIVES
Thanks to Sophie Gusler's hard work we are excited to announce that Kinetic Kids is now offering OT treatment intensives.
· OT treatment intensives are customized to meet each child’s needs – programs will vary, but are typically 1-3 months with OT provided 3-5x weekly.
· Programming will consist of standardized evaluation, direct intervention, and parent education sessions
· Increasing the intensity and frequency of treatment strengthens the central nervous system allowing the brain to make new, more effective brain connections for sensory processing
· Research suggests this model can effectively remediate motor, social-emotional, and adaptive behavior problems for children struggling with sensory processing challenges.
We are iLs-trained SSP Providers!
The Safe and Sound Protocol is designed to work with a person’s nervous system. When the child feels safe, calm and relaxed his/her nervous system will be receptive to new acoustic stimuli within the frequency band of human communication and this will maximize the effectiveness of the intervention. While feeling safe, calm, and relaxed may be difficult for many children, you can help by attempting to create this calming environment for the intervention administration.
